The Marwell estate in the parishes of Owslebury and Twyford, Hampshire was for many years in the ownership of the Mildmay family, who subsequently took the surname St John Mildmay.

During the winter of 1858-1859, a large set of documents were created in anticipation of a sale of estate. These documents comprised seven folios; two abstracts of title; one abstract of charges on the estate and four folios detailing with requisitions, and answers to the requisitions that passed between the vendors and purchasers solicitors. The earliest document recited in the folios is from 1744, and the latest is dated 1859.

These folios are currently in a private ownership and subsequently have not been readily accessible to researchers. The transcripts in this book have been faithfully copied from the originals to make them available to researchers for the first time.

The transcripts of these folios contained in this book provide a fascinating insight into the finances of the St John Mildmay family and their associates, many of whom are also from other notable families from that period. The transcripts in this book will appeal to genealogists studying either the Mildmay family or their associates, and also anyone interested in the history of the Marwell estate
